Laura Linney's portrayal as vulnerable and yet powerful characters has earned her the title of one of the most popular American actors. Linney was born to a single, unmarried mother who worked as a nurse. She became interested with theatre in time spent in the summer by her famous father. She was a student of acting in Brown University, and later in Juilliard School. When she graduated from Brown University, she made her Broadway debut shortly thereafter. Within two years of this, her first feature film was released and the next year she made her television debut. Since then, she has been in numerous films as well as stage and TV productions. She has been nominated for three Oscar Awards, five Tony Awards, four Primetime Emmy Awards (including two Golden Globe Awards), and received several awards during her professional career. In spite of all these accolades, her love for the theatre isn't gone, and she still performs as a stage performer and screen.
